Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority

inda Paulmeno, Director of Communications, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International
One of the primary factors which led Mercedes to selecting this area was the education level of the work force. We are very excited about the commitment and desire of our team members to build a 'world-class' vehicle. Our team members have met and exceeded the necessary abilities critical to our production process. Mercedes-Benz currently employs 1,800 team members, which exceeds the company's initial projections of 1,500 by the end of the decade.

On several occasions our Tuscaloosa County facility has exceeded production quotas of sister plants in Japan and other locations worldwide. This speaks to the strong work ethic and commitment of our labor pool. In fact, we have been so pleased with Tuscaloosa County that we have doubled our operations since opening here in the mid-1980s. JVC America employs more than 600 people in the production of video cassettes and compact discs.

We have found that our employees are very committed to the task at hand and really enjoy their work. It's refreshing to see our associates exhibit such a positive attitude in the workplace. Johnson Controls employs approximately 230 people in the production of plastic injected automotive components.
