and rail services to interstate and waterway
transportation, Tuscaloosa County has met the critical transportation needs
of all industries locating in our
community.
Road: Tuscaloosa County is serviced by Interstates 59/20 and 359; U.S.
Highways 82, 43 and 11; and State
Highways 69, 215, and 171. Also, a six-mile (9.6 km), four-lane western
bypass and toll bridge connects U.S.
Highway 82 with I-59.
Airports: The Tuscaloosa Municipal Airport offers a 6,500 foot (1,981 m)
lighted jet runway. Charter air service is
available from several large fixed-based operators. The Birmingham
International Airport, which is served bymajor
carriers, is one hour's distance by car.
Railroads: Three railroad systems serve the Tuscaloosa area. Passenger
service is offered by Amtrak with service to
New York and New Orleans.
Freight service is provided by Kansas City Southern and Norfolk
Southern.
Motor Freight: More than 27 motor freight companies offering short-haul,
long-haul and custom trucking serve the
Tuscaloosa market.
Barge:The Black Warrior River bisects Tuscaloosa County. This
federally-maintained waterway provides a
minimum nine foot (2.7 m) depth and 280 foot (85 m) width. The river
connects Tuscaloosa County with the Port of
Mobile, and, via the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, to the Tennessee, Ohio
and Mississippi Rivers.
Parcel Carriers:Parcel delivery services are provided by Federal Express,
United Parcel Service (UPS), Airborne
Express, Purolator Courier and Emery Worldwide, just to name a few.
